Hyrule. Thurdsay, [05/03 FT].

After it was generally and mostly handwavily decided that the group would use their extra day in Hyrule to visit the far reaches of the land in the Gerudo Desert, Sidon wished them well with his regrets that he would not be able to join them. Sure, winter on Fandom Island had definitely tested his ability to withstand different weather, but he knew the heat of the desert would still be far too much for him. Besides, he would never be able to pass as a vai in order to enter the city, so he would just wait for them back at Zora's Domain.

"I would say to call if anything goes amiss," he said before they left, "but after yesterday, I am not too sure that would be a possible solution."

But Ramella, the Gerudo guide, assured the prince that she would keep them from harm, and they gathered their horses, and set off to the southwest for the next and final leg of their adventure.

Gerudo Town - 05/03.

No men allowed! the Gerudo Town has a strict rule against men (or voe, as they're called) inside their city walls, but that is a detail that...might be easier to get around than one might expect. But once inside, the travelers will find themselves in a female-only haven for shopping, relaxing at the spa, or even train with the guard. You could even take a class on how to interact with voe in the outside world and learn all about Gerudo dating culture!

Don't forget the opportunity to rent a sand seal for some seal surfing, too!

Just watch out for more lizalfos; these ones will electrify you, too!

Peridot wasn't certain how she'd wound up in the class for impressing voe, no. She had little interest in dating, after all, though it did give her some insight as to how matriarchal societies worked when they were organic, rather than Gem.

Organic or not, this town was making her even more homesick. She spent a lot of time just kind of sighing as she took in a city that had been constructed with a certain feminine sensibility. Not that she was technically female, either. But with Gems, it was all really a matter of being close enough to count.

Naturally, the visitors had been the talk of the town, but this little Gerudo child didn't care for them too much. They all looked like boring adults, even if they looked like strange boring adults. This one, however, was clearly not boring....or an adult! She was even smaller that she was!

"Sav'aaq!" she bounced up and greeted the visitor brightly, eager for a new playmate. "Are you Goron?"

The stranger was certainly unlike any Goron she'd ever seen before, but, then again, she hadn't seen many Gorons.

Peridot blinked at the Gerudo child. And then looked back over her shoulder, blinking some more.

And then looked back at the child. And pointed to herself in question.

"Me?"

"No," the girl giggled, "the other green child in the plaza right now! Of course I mean you! My name's Isha, what's yours? We should be friends, I've never had a Goron friend before."

There were a lot of things going on in that statement that Peridot needed to protest. Child? Goron? What?

"Peridot," she settled on, because the child had asked her name. "I'm Peridot."

And it was possible that she as rolling with this at least in part because Isha reminded her a great deal of Steven.

"Peridot," Isha repeated to help her remember, giggling again. "So pretty! I thought Gorons had not-pretty names, like Grunk and Lunk, but Peridot is pretty! And I really like your hair! Did you just get here? What are you doing here? Have you been to Gerudo Town before?"

"My name is Peridot because that's what I am," she said, reaching a hand up to tap the gem on her forehead with one little green finger. "I'm a Peridot,, so I'm Peridot."

Gem naming conventions weren't exactly creative.

"I'm here with all the humans," she added. "We were visiting Prince Sidon, and he wanted to show us as much of Hyrule as he possibly could."

Which had been a fantastic learning experience! And also seemed to be making her progressively more homesick.

Tip didn't think J.Lo would ever forgive her for passing up the opportunity to try seal surfing. Plus, he was going to be crazy jealous that she got to try it.

There were maybe half a dozen really awkward selfies sent off during the process, in which she very nearly lost her phone, but it was worth it.

And her efforts had been noticed by a teenaged despite the icon shh Gerudo vai who'd been out with a sand seal of her own.

"Not bad," Tali observed. "This your first time seal surfing?"

"First time doing any kind of surfing," Tip admitted. "I'm pretty lucky I didn't faceplant instantaneously."

She would have found a way to send a selfie of that to J.Lo too, let's be real.

"Must have gotten a good seal, and a good shield," the Gerudo mused. "That's just as much as talent as talent, really, so it's a good thing I've got a good one." She gave the seal a loving scratch under his chin before quirking a chin at the other vai. "Name's Tali. I'm going to be the best seal surfer in the whole desert one day."

"I'm Tip," Tip said. She was getting a lot of play with that alliteration on this trip. "Are there big competitions for it? That could be a lot of fun to watch. Especially if you all do tricks and stuff."

"See that hill over there?" Tali lifted her chin now toward a slightly raised plateau of sand not too far from where they were. "You can't see it from here, but there's an old platform there, and a big glowing ball. Every time there's a challenger, we throw up a coarse and race for the title of Sand Surfing Champ, and the Champ gets the ball and a belt. I don't think I'm good enough yet to defeat the current Champ, but once I am, watch out! I'm gonna be undefeated until the day I die."

How delightfully poorly organized! "I bet you will," Tip said, with absolutely no reason to have an opinion either way. "How long have you been practicing?"

Uma sidled up to Tip and held out a jar of sweet-smelling unguent. "For after you get out of the water," she said. "Between the salt and the heat, I can feel my skin drying out already."

And so...sharing. For reasons. Shut up.

"Riding a seal?" Uma said, looking intrigued. "I--yeah, actually. It seemed like fun, but I wanted to do some shopping for a bit first. What do I do?"

"Whoa," Uma said, looking around at all the Gerudo. "Is it just me or is everybody hot?"

She didn't mean temperature, either, even though they were in the desert. She'd saved money yesterday not having to buy a sword, and that just meant she could spend it here, at the clothing store and at the spa.

It was a comment that certainly caught the attention of a passing Gerudo, though, of course, she took it to mean precisely what Uma hadn't meant.

"You rather get used to it," she offered, "and cools down quite a bit in the evening. Vasaaq," she waved a hand a little, "I hope you are enjoying your visit."

"It's definitely something I could get used to," Uma said with an easy smirk. "Vasaaq?" she sounded out the word. "Is that a greeting?"

"That's correct," the Gerudo woman nodded. "It is a general greeting in our language. There's also Sav'otta, for good morning, and Sav'aaq for good day. Sav'orq is a good-bye and Sav'orr is good night."

How lucky it was that the Gerudo passing by just happened to be a linguist.

Super lucky!

"Sav'aaq," Uma repeated. "Sav'otta, sav'orq, sav'orr, vasaaq." She was a decent enough mimic; a natural ear for music helped her with cadence and the way the word was supposed to sound. "Good day, good morning, goodbye, good...night?"

Yes, she thought she was remembering that correctly.
