Tabantha Frontier, Hyrule. [12/26].

Early the next morning, after breakfast and arranging horses to make the trip far easier and swifter, the group set off across the Hyrule Field, to the northwest, toward the sweeping plains and steep mountains of the Tabantha Frontier, home of the Rito, Hyrule's proud and musical bird race.

It would be another long journey, but hopefully one well-worth the travel, with more than enough to captivate the visitors on the scenic and exciting path.

"Sounds like him, alright." Tip shuddered. "That was one of my least favorite weird things the island has done."

"It wasn't fun, no," Breq said, her thoughts on the one she had found the worst. This wasn't the place to talk about the dead returning though. No place was, probably.

It wasn't generally considered polite conversation, no.

"Last week wasn't too bad at least," Tip said. "Other than the cold. And the dancing."

The dancing had just been weird.

"I missed the dancing," Breq said. "But it sounds better than killing things."

Not that she had a problem with killing things when it was necessary, but dancing was definitely better.

"The snow monsters were apparently quite resistant to being killed. But yeah, it would be anyway."

"So they were," Breq said. "Dancing was also more efficient, it seemed. I wish that was usually the case."

"Usually it's probably talking," Tip mused. "Though sometimes a fair amount of subterfuge and running is required."

Breq thought for a moment. "In many places that would be considered a peaceful way to solve things."

"The talking, or the subterfuge?"

"Mostly the talking, but subterfuge too," Breq said. "In my experience people easily resort to shooting things."

Tip frowned and nodded. "Yeah. Definitely." She was not a big fan of shooting things, no.

"I've never heard of fighting back with dancing in a way that actually worked, though," Breq said. "I'm sorry I missed it."

"Yeeeeah, I think we mostly just distracted them while other people did the actual ridding," Tip pointed out. "So . . . it was a form of subterfuge, really."

"A subterfuge that worked," Breq said. "Anyway, I hope there will be a little peace and quiet for a while when we get back."

"At least until the latest crop of newbies arrives," Tip said. "Then it'll be chaotic and loud, but hopefully in a fun way."

"In a fun way," Breq agreed.

"Are you signed up to be a buddy? Or getting a new roommate?"

"Neither," Breq said. "What about you?"

"Same. I sign up to be a buddy sometimes, but I didn't get around to it this time. I'll probably end up helping someone out at the picnic anyway. I usually do."

"I might too," Breq said. "Depending on how confused they look."

"Or if they look really blank, just in case they could benefit from your experience with deliberately using facial expressions to put us weird humans at ease?" Tip asked, a teasing note in her voice.

Breq turned her head to look at Tip with that deliberately blank expression.

"I don't know what you mean."

Hopefully Tip could guess there was a teasing not there.
