Ruto Precipice; Zora's Domain, Hyrule. Thursday Evening [12/27].
It was amazing how quickly four days could pass, especially when one was trying to fill those days with as many interesting things as possible. Add to that the fact that travel wasn't entirely convenient when trying to traverse across the land of Hyrule, and Sidon found himself already at the end of their visit without having done yet the one thing that was, admittedly, at the forefront of his mind the entire time: stealing away to a quiet spot in the mountains with Vette. As a communal race that didn't exactly believe in things like walls or privacy, young and amorous Zora had to be a little creative in their attempts for romance, but the landscape of their home made it convenient enough to find a quiet little body of water to escape to for an evening. Sidon had never even imagined he'd be planning out one of these rendezvous...not for a while, anyway!...and yet there he was. Amazing how much had changed since his last visit home!
Though he felt a little bad about leaving the feast a bit early, he headed up to the East Reservoir Lake by himself, slipping away while everyone was engaged, and he thought to make it a little more interesting for Vette to allow her to find her way there herself, having one of the hatchlings approach her during the party and hand her a carefully drawn out map that would send her on a bit of a tangentially winding path that would eventually lead her up the stairs of the large dam just east, past the East Reservoir Lake, and onto the rocky ridges there that looked over Zora's Domain, and that's where she would find Sidon waiting for her.
He had promised her the best view, after all, and after some careful deliberation, decided that this would be it. Not as much height as Shatterback Point, but it was closer, one could see some of the finer details of the graceful architecture from here, the soft lights reflecting the moonlight; if you listened closely, one might still be able to hear the conversations and excitement of the feast below, over the ever-present sound of rushing waters and fountains and waterfalls.
Yes, he thought to himself, this was the perfect spot. Especially if they managed to avoid any pesky stalizalfos or stalkoblins while they were up here. Though that certainly would make for an exciting interruption.

Still, she followed it, and as she did so she made a note of where everything was along the way; Sidon's home held some beautiful sights, and if she ever happened to come back again, she'd like very much to have a chance to explore these places a little more thoroughly.
When she reached the destination, though, all of her attention left the scenery and focused right in on one thing in particular.
"Sidon!"
Incoming Twi'lek, launching herself at him for a hug. Or to just kind of jump up, latch on, and dangle. But she was pretty sure doing that would result in hugging.
no subject
And once she was there, of course, he immediately though of what would make a better greeting, and that would involve adding a kiss into the whole thing, something that had been woefully missing over the course of the trip. So he'd have to make up for it now, slowly bending over to set her feet more comfortably on the ground and lingering like that for a moment. When he pulled away, it was only just enough to smile at her and say, "My apologies if the map was a bit of a misleading ruse and you found your way up here expecting to find treasure."
no subject
She doubted that, though.
no subject
He wasn't wrong, really. These mountains and lakes were heavily laden with all sorts of treasure, it was just a matter of knowing where to look and how to pull them up from their watery graves.
"Though tonight," he continued, "I was rather hoping we'd be finding treasure of a different nature, the kind that can't exactly be sold or traded."
no subject
no subject
"I promised you the best view, didn't I?" he said. Grinning, he swept in for one more kiss, as he felt he'd like to get that in there before she became (he hoped!) completely distracted after he swept his arm toward the edge of the cliff they were standing on, overlooking Zora's Domain from far above yet still close enough that a sharp eye would still be able to pick out their friends down there in the courtyard, or at least their general shape and form and color.
"How is that," he announced dramatically, "for spectacular and stunning?"
no subject
It had been beautiful on day one, reaching the top of the stairs and looking around for the first time, though her moment of awe had been interruped by the domain's biggest gossips, and the wonder had faded slightly from there.
But this?
"Oh..." She whispered, staring out over the view that he'd presented to her. "Sidon. Your home is... everything here is..." She glanced up at him for a moment, and then back out again. "Wow."
no subject
He knew it would mean a lot when he'd planned this whole thing, weeks before they'd even arrived, but it didn't really strike him how much it meant until just that moment, hitting him almost like a bolt of lightning.
Just, thankfully, not quite so fatal.
no subject
She bit her lip. She was rambling.
"You're very lucky, to have a home like this."
no subject
no subject
She, maybe boldly, reached for his hand. This seemed like a hand-holding sort of view.
"Maybe someday you'll get to see some of where I've been, and you'll be able to appreciate how amazing it is that much more."
no subject
"I would like that," he said, a quieter, more thoughtful rumble. "Not only because it would mean that you'd be able to go home again," which was something he thought about quite often, really, even when the thoughts weren't exactly the most cheerful for him, "but also...just to know...more..."
There were...so many things left undiscussed between them, because they were unpleasant things, though they were also important things. They weren't think he necessarily thought they needed to discuss now< of course, especially not when he still had other things he'd rather do, but it felt like a good moment to put it out there that he was open to hearing them.
Which he assumed she already knew, but it wouldn't hurt to let her know.
no subject
"There are entire aquatic worlds," she offered. "I think you'd like those. Or we can split the difference and maybe visit a planet with vast oceans and long stretches of beach, like Fandom but warmer..."
Wistfulness was creeping into her voice, there.
"Ryloth wouldn't be comfortable for you," she added, almost apologetically, "but it wouldn't be comfortable for me, either."
For very different reasons, of course. She ducked her head a little.
no subject
"I would still like to experience it," Sidon assured her. "Maybe, by then, I might even know more of the language, as well."
You know, more than just how to ask a girl out.
"Fandom isn't always comfortable for me, either," he added, then gave a soft grunt that was almost a laugh, but not quite. "As a matter of fact, Fandom won't be comfortable for me for the next three, four months or so."
He'd almost been able to forget about winter while he was here, somehow. He squeezed her hand one more time to get her attention a little as he looked over and smiled down at her. "It is incredibly worth it, though."
no subject
Hence all the living underground that they did.
"Nar Shaddaa, though... You might even enjoy some of the less Hutt-y things about Nar Shaddaa."
Or he might be horrified by it. Even odds.
no subject
"Mmm," he said, "perhaps not Ryltoh, then, unless I am somehow able to procure a stockpile of Fireproof Elixers before then, as well."
Sidon, there wasn't enough Fireproof Elixers in the world for a Zora.
But you couldn't blame a guy for being hopeful, right?
"Or perhaps I should start spending a little more time up near Death Mountain on my visits," he mused, grinning faintly. "Build up a better immunity."
He figured that was a bit better to talk about than asking about what the more Hutt-y things were, but he could probably guess, and it was hardly something he'd want to talk about right now.
no subject
For another one of those 'probably not right now' topics, really.
"Nar Shaddaa, though... I could introduce you to the gang. They'd really like you, I think..."
no subject
"I certainly hope so!" Sidon said sincerely, "as I'm sure I'll rather like them, as well. Any friend of yours is someone I'd want in my corner as well. Tell me about them..."
He unraveled himself from his gentle hold around her, though, finding her hand with his as he grinned. "But not here. There's somewhere else I wanted to take you tonight, too. Nothing particularly special or meaningful, but somewhere nice and quiet, where we can be...alone."
Which they were now, yes, but still so close to everyone else, so it was hardly the same.
no subject
"More alone, huh?" Actually, that sounded pretty good. As great as the view was, there was something about looking over and being able to hear their friends down below that made this moment slightly less about them. "I am definitely up for some alone time."
There hadn't really been much of that since they'd gotten here. The one point against Hyrule so far.
no subject
"Excellent!"
His grin was broad and sharp and intensely relieved. One of these days, he might actually manage to not hold his breath in anticipation when making these sort of suggestions to Vette, but tonight was clearly not that day, and he pumped his fist with the thrill of it.
"Then, there are two ways in which we can proceed: the long way will take us around the reservoir lake along the mountain ridge, but, of course, there's always just cutting across the lake itself."
no subject
This was kind of a no-brainer, really.
"You know, it's been a while since a swim lesson."
no subject
no subject
His element was what happened when they were already in the water. Vette liked her odds.
no subject
Besides, if Vette got there first, it would make the view of the springing jump and wholly unnecessary flip before he dove right in all the more impressive. He liked showing off; showing off for Vette in particular, he liked even more.
no subject
She did laugh in delight at the flip, yes, because it was pretty amazing dating a guy who happened to be an ambassador prince showman, and she was never, ever disappointed by the show.
"Well, aren't you fancy, huh?"
no subject
But since he was fairly certain there wasn't...
His smile shifted into something less proud and more just content, being deep in the water himself, but he moved a little closer where it wasn't so deep before holding out his hands, palms up, beckoning Vette to try swimming closer to him. She didn't want to just stay over there in the dreadfully boring shallows, now, did she?
no subject
And the next step was a drop-off she hadn't entirely been expecting, which meant she managed a bit of a yelp before dipping under the water entirely for a moment, bobbing back up again with a bit of a 'pbbth' and some mad kicking going on down below.
She was... not grace, really, no.
no subject
Sidon had rushed forward almost before that bit of a yelp had finished leaving her mouth, ready to pull her up if he had to, but giving it just a moment, no matter how hard it was, to allow her to get it right for herself. And when it looked like she had it, he nodded, giving her a faint, encouraging smile, keeping his hands close, prepared for anything. "It's alright," he assured her. "You can do it!"
no subject
It was more than she'd been able to manage even a few months ago, at least.
"I," she announced, somewhere between one bob of her head above the water and the time she wound up under again, "am really," glub, "bad at this!"
But trying!
no subject
no subject
"We have really different definitions of spectacular," Vette managed, all in one go, even, before pulling in a deep breath and attempting to let bouyancy assist her, here. Which worked maybe a little better if she was on her back, instead of face-first with her lekku draped to either side of her head, but at least taking a moment to just kind of float there and catch her bearings meant that she wasn't wearing herself out just kicking and flailing around.
She did blow a few bemused bubbles before looking up again, though.
"Progress?"
no subject
"Progress," he confirmed with a chuckle. "You'll be swimming circles around me in no time! Although, I must admit, if expediency is something we're after, this may not be the most practical approach."
no subject
"Swimming circles if you're staying still," Vette laughed, working on paddling her way toward him some more.
With only minimal amounts of choking on the water along the way.
"Your way is so much faster, you know."
no subject
...after moving out perhaps just a little bit further.
Every little bit helped!
no subject
"Hey!" That protest wasn't too heartfelt, considering the way Vette was laughing as she swam that tiny bit more. Sure, it was a sort of 'ha ha pbbth hee,' laugh, but at least she meant it. "Making me work for it now, are you?"
no subject
no subject
"Oh, no, not even a little pbbbth."
Swimming lessons were going to be the death of her. At least she was pretty sure none of the other Zora were around to watch the object of their prince's affections fail so spectacularly at a little bit of simple swimming?
"So far as challenges go, this is definitely a good one."
no subject
"And you're doing wonderfully with it, too," Sidon informed her. "Besides, it stands to reason that the more difficult the challenge, the greater the reward with success, wouldn't you say?"
no subject
"I demand kisses when I catch up to you," Vette informed him, paddling steadily along. "I think that's a reward worth swimming for!"
no subject
So, of course, he had to make a point of moving away just a tiny bit more.
no subject
"I am not swimming clear across this lake, buster!"
Was Vette pausing in her paddling to splash at him? Why yes! Yes she was! Was it worth the few more seconds spent sinking before she splashed back up above the surface again? Well. She would say so.
no subject
But now he did feel a little bad for teasing her, although he'd like to see anyone try to deny that she'd managed to make a good deal of distance and even managed to try a splash in the meantime, which was easy, categorical evidence of her improvement, and he'd hear nothing of the sort otherwise.
And he'd stay put this time, too. In fact, he was almost tempted to close up the very gap he'd created, but he'd meant what he'd said about the kisses being proportional to the effort and was holding himself to it.
They...still might miss their portal back to Fandom after all.
no subject
She was mostly even correct, even if her efforts manifested themselves by way of a bit of blind flailing with her fingers grabbing for whatever part of Sidon she could reach.
no subject
He even remembered to let her catch her breath instead of just moving in for some of those kisses right away.
"That was incredible, Vette!" he said, achingly sincere. "Just look at how far you managed to make it!"
no subject
She clung tight to Sidon while she worked on evening out her breathing again.
"And next time I'll make it twice as far," she declared. Not feeling a word of it, but so help her, false bravado was one of her specialties.
no subject
Or...probably not, because, unless they were able to think of more excuses to swim in the onsen without being yelled at, swimming opportunities would be few and far between coming up. Although there was always....the...pool...
Sidon would shudder to think of it, if only he was thinking of it. But for now, he was only thinking of the fact that she'd made it, and she was there, and he had her in his arms, and there had been promises of kisses.
no subject
It was still a step up on some of the water on Nar Shaddaa.
"Well," Vette informed him, "of course I will. I happen to have an excellent teacher."
And some pretty good motivation for swimming better, too. Kisses were an excellent reward.
